FA Charter Standard awarded to Palace Court FC    (24/04/2008)

Palace Court Football Club has been awarded the prestigious Charter Standard by the FA.
The award is given to clubs that are not only a benefit their local community (by encouraging the local youngsters to get involved in the club and teams, for example) but also have the correct administrative structure in place, good facilities and are always able to maintain Football League regulations, such as having a qualified first-aid representative at all games.
The Charter Standard not only gives the club a greater status within the football community but also means that the FA are able to subsidise any equipment that is required by the club itself, whether it is new footballs, kit or even goal-nets that are needed.
This is a deserved award not only for the Football Club, that has always offered both the best welcome and best facilities in the league, but also for Marnhull itself. Well done PCFC.

Palace Court First Eleven in pole position as title race hots-up (28/04/2008)

I thought I’d turn-up for the second half of Sundays First Team game (everyone should be allowed a bit of a lie-in every once in a while) so they could have at least a bit of a match report for a change. This was pretty much a pointless exercise (Hence why I didn’t do one). Why? Because the score was already 9-0 to Palace when I turned up. Three more goals were scored in the second half (typical of me to catch the half with three goals in and not nine) that made the final score 12-0 (I know that you’d probably worked that out yourself, but just thought I’d clarify things in case you support either Liverpool or Chelsea), so you can see for yourself that it was one-way traffic and that was it.
With Palace currently lying in second place in the league, the goal-fest was a real boost as the goal difference could prove to be invaluable come the end of the season.  With two games to go, Palace have given themselves a good chance of winning the league but will have to win both games and hope that one of three teams can do them a favour by beating Sherbourne West End over the next two weeks.
So fingers crossed and let’s hope the boys can win some deserved silverware for PCFC.

 Reserve End-of-Season night out             01/05/2008

With only two friendlies to go, the powers that be (namely Duncan) have decided that after our final match on Friday the 2nd of May, against Shaftesbury Veterans , Palace Court Football Club will be painting Shaftesbury Red (or at least black and white striped). Everyone's invited, especially you rich people with money to burn!!
Oh yeh, the k.o (for the game) is 6.30, it's at the Shaftesbury Town pitch and Man of the Match buys the first round!!!

 Reserves Season finishes              06/04/2008

The Reserves finished their competitive season yesterday with an un-deserved loss against Atletico Shaftesbury at home. This was the end to a quiet/poor season for the reserves who didn't get out of the starting blocks until three games from season end. After being knocked out of both cups and finishing 6th in the league (this could drop to seventh by season end) it was a dissapointing finish to a year that started out very promising. Let's look forward to next season and hope that the First Team can get some silverware that the Court deserve

 Historic Milestone..........              30/03/2008

Andy Dawe hit another milestone today in his illustrious Palace Court career by reaching, sit down for this one, 600 games!!! Barney, legend has it that this refers to his inability to hit a barn-door, is one of the co-founders of the Court that was set up in 1980. Thus, using my powerful mathematical brain, making ummm… give me a minute…….an average of about 21.5 games per season over a 28 year period. I was always unsure as to why he always sat close to the mains socket in the changing rooms, but I think we can all agree that he probably justifies a re-charge at half time.On a serious note though, congratulations Barney.  I think everyone would agree that Palace Court wouldn’t quite be the same without you and that you do deserve all the praise that we hear coming from the other teams in the league.Keep it up Barney, I want to be writing about your 650th game in a couple of years!!!

 Palace Court Wedding Bells..........              22/03/2008

I would like to congratulate Mark Cook and Holly on their wedding last weekend. Both looked very happy and seemed to have enjoyed their special day on Saturday 22nd March. Although they had been ‘living-in-sin’ for quite a while, it was good to see them finally tie the knot.Again, congratulations to you both and I hope you enjoy a wonderful life together

 Mid Season Progress.......       25/11/2007

Well, mixed offerings in this brief mid-season report. In the league the Reserves have been struggling to regain their form after the first couple of games, struggling in mid-table they have only managed one point in their last three outings. They have shown glimpses of what propelled them up the league two years earlier, but have been unable to show the consistency needed. The First team however have had a much better season seeing them currently in third position with games in hand. As for cup games, unfortunately both teams have been knocked-out of the mid-season competitions, but both are hoping to go one step further than the previous year when the reseves lost in the final.
That's all for now........

Player Profiles........       27/09/2007

Due to popular demand (actually, I just thought it would be fun doing them) I will be adding a couple of player profiles to every Reserve Match Report. Please click on the highlighted names to get a true insight into the individuals themselves. Nothing is as it seems............

Casualties..............      17/09/2007

The reserve team have been plague by injuries already this season, the latest being Michael Kosh who suffered a broken leg after a horrendous tackle in the game against Atletico Shaftesbury. Hope you're up and about soon mate (send a comment if you're reading this to keep us up to speed). Also out with injuries are Jordan Collins (ankle) and Nick Grimes (back). Luckily from the teams perspective we have a squad the size of a small army, so numbers are not affected even if the talent is! I will keep you avid readers updated with info. as and when the grape-vine supplies me with its fruits.

 Weekend One........

Unfortunately the First Team game at Bruton was cancelled due to bad pitch conditions - this must be a first as Bruton is never knee-deep in mud or as hard as concrete - but the Reserves an the other-hand won their first game 2-1 at Millers Athletic in Wincanton. A great start, 3 points and hopefully the standard of things to come (click here to see full match-report).

  Pre/New Season...   30th August 2007

Pre-season is over and so begins the new season. The First Team start their campaign un-beaten (about five matches in all) and should hopefully begin full of confidence. The Reserves had a small and mixed pre-season losing 10-3 at Atletico Shaftesbury and winning 5-2 at Dextra, but as always with the Reserves we always play better when it's an up-hill struggle, so who knows. The first few games will be away from home due to Marnhull rec. still being used for cricket, so you'll all have to wait for a while to get one of Mrs L's cups of tea.....

  Friendly No. 1..........

The first Reserve friendly of the season is on Sunday 19th at Shaftesbury Town. K.O 10.30. This will be against Atletico Shaftesbury, who have obviously made a few foreign signings in this summers Transfer window. Hence the name.  With PCFC having about 22 players, there will be a lot of substitutions going on, so expect some confusion in the ranks!

I will not normally post up-coming matches on the news sheet, but as it's the first one I will make an exception. First goalscorer anyone??

More Reserve fixtures have been arranged click here for fixture list.

   Training No 1………………..

Palace Court pre-season training began last night at a very boggy Gillingham Rec. It appeared to be a record turn-out of about twenty reserve-players ranging from the newly signed Marnhull youngsters (‘youngsters’ may sound slightly patronising, but I couldn’t think of any other printable description other than ‘whipper-snappers’) who ran around as if they’d been stung by wasps, through to the more sedate ‘veterans’ (you know who you are!) and the infirm (and so do you!).

With such a large squad there will be competition for all positions, so miss training at your peril…………………………

    Pre-Season Meeting

After much debate in a darkened, smoky room (ok, it was after July 1st and quite light really) at the Mitre in Shaftesbury, the following was decided.

Training will take place from mid-September at the Gillingham School astro-turf on Thursday nights between 6.30 and 7.30.  This will be mainly a 'football' session as opposed to fitness which is to be done on your own time. Training up to mid-September will be at Gillingham Rec at the same time. We expect a big turn-out each week!! I have been told that the players who didn't turn up, with good reason obviously, had put in a lot of thought about the whereabouts and time of the training.

The reserve friendlies will begin on about 12th August, so if you fancy a laugh watching 22 unfit men running after a bag of wind (not Bissy, I meant the ball) and running-off three months of beer and curry, then please come along (dates and venue to follow).
